Frequently asked questions

Common questions about visiting the park, getting here, facilities, and rules.

Q: Is there an entrance fee for Lumpini Park?

No, the park is free to enter for both Thai citizens and foreign visitors.

Q: Are there public restrooms and showers inside the park?

Yes, public restrooms are located throughout the park. Many of them have showers, which are free to use and popular with runners.

Q: Can I bring my dog or cat to Lumpini Park?

Pets are not allowed in the main areas of the park, which helps protect local birds and monitor lizards. You can, however, take your pet to the dedicated Lumpini Dog Park on the Wireless Road side (near Gate 4). You will need to register before entering. Inside the fenced zones, which are split into separate areas for large and small dogs, your dog can be off the leash.

Q: Can you rent a bicycle inside Lumpini Park?

No, there are no bicycle rental services inside Lumpini Park. If you want to ride during the permitted hours (10:00 AM to 03:00 PM), you must bring your own bike. You can also ride on the Green Bridge elevated path connecting to Benjakitti Park for free at any time.

Q: How do I walk or cycle from Benjakitti Park to Lumpini Park?

You can walk or cycle between the two parks via the Green Bridge (สะพานเขียว), a 1.6 kilometer elevated pedestrian walkway and bicycle path. The bridge entrance in Lumpini Park is located at the northeast corner, near the Sarasin Road intersection. It is open daily from 05:00 AM to 06:00 PM, has lighting at night, and takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk.

Q: Is Lumpini Park worth visiting?

Yes. Lumpini Park is Thailand's first public park and one of the few large green spaces in central Bangkok. It is free to enter, open daily from 04:30 AM to 10:00 PM, and has a few things that are hard to find elsewhere in the city: free-roaming Asian water monitor lizards, a 2.5 km running loop, free swan boat rentals, Bangkok's first public library, and the free Concert in the Park series on winter Sundays. Even a short one-hour walk around the lake is worth it if you are staying in Silom, Sathorn, or Ratchadamri.

Q: Is Lumpini Park safe at night?

The roads around the park (Silom, Ratchadamri, Wireless Road, and Sathorn) are well lit and busy until late, and are safe to walk along at night. The park itself closes at 10:00 PM and the gates are locked overnight, so there is no nighttime access inside. BMA security guards patrol during opening hours. For emergencies inside the park, call the Tourist Police on 1155 (English) or 1669 for an ambulance.

Q: Is Lumpini Park open at night?

No. The park closes at 10:00 PM every day and the gates are locked overnight. It reopens at 04:30 AM the next morning. If you want an evening visit, arrive by 8:00 PM to give yourself time to walk the loop before closing. The surrounding streets, restaurants, and the BMA Hawker Centre at Gate 5 (open until Midnight) stay open later.

Q: How long does it take to walk around Lumpini Park?

The main paved loop around the lake is 2.5 km (about 1.5 miles). At a leisurely walking pace it takes 30 to 35 minutes, or about 15 minutes if you jog. The full perimeter path, including the outer edges away from the lake, is longer.

Q: How big is Lumpini Park?

Lumpini Park covers 360 rai, which is about 57.6 hectares (142 acres). To put that in perspective, it is roughly the size of 80 international football pitches. The main running and walking loop around the central lake is 2.5 km.

Q: Is Lumpini Park a good area to stay in?

Yes. The area around Lumpini Park is one of the best-connected neighborhoods in Bangkok. It sits at the junction of Silom, Sathorn, Ratchadamri, Wireless Road, and Lang Suan, with direct MRT and BTS access. Staying here puts you within walking distance of the park, the Siam shopping malls via the Skywalk, One Bangkok, Patpong, and plenty of restaurants. The trade-off is that it is a business district, so street life is quieter than in Sukhumvit or Khao San Road late at night.

Q: Is there luggage storage near Lumpini Park?

The park itself does not have lockers or a left-luggage counter. If you need to store bags before a flight or after a hotel checkout, the closest options are luggage-storage services around BTS Sala Daeng and BTS Ratchadamri, bookable via apps like Bounce or Radical Storage. Prices typically range from about 65 to 200 THB per bag per day depending on the provider and location. Some hotels in the area may hold bags for same-day guests if you ask at the front desk. If you are arriving from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, it is often simpler to store luggage at the airport and travel light to the park.
